However this is still a good drink that has clearly been at its apogee for a few decades, and yet continues to offer plenty of enjoyment. The bouquet is a classic, mature mélange of dark berries, licorice, tar, sous bois, dried herbs and charred wood. When first opened this wine showed a whiff of maderization, but as it sat in bottle and gently acclimated the wine cleaned up nicely.
