      Detailed Description

The 1999 Château Pavie is a classic, medium-to-full-bodied Bordeaux Red Blend from Saint-Émilion. It features aromas of red and black fruit, licorice, smoke, and spice, backed by fine-grained tannins and a mineral finish.

      Producer Information

Château Pavie is a legendary Bordeaux wine estate located on the steep, south-facing limestone slopes of Saint-Émilion, where its wine-growing history traces back to ancient Roman cultivation in the 4th century. Holding the prestigious, top-tier rank of Premier Grand Cru Classé (A), the property spans a rare and unusually large, contiguous 42-hectare single-block vineyard that encompasses three distinct terroirs: a high clay-limestone plateau, a middle slope, and lighter sandy-clay soils at the foot of the hill. Planted predominantly with 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, the estate underwent a massive modern renaissance following its 1998 acquisition by Gérard Perse, who famously restructured the vineyards, lowered yields, built a state-of-the-art gravity-fed cellar, and employed renowned consultant Michel Rolland to pioneer a highly concentrated, bold, and structurally opulent style. Following Gérard Perse's passing in 2025, the estate continues its elite trajectory under the leadership of his family—led by Angélique and Henrique Da Costa—maintaining an ultra-premium portfolio featuring its iconic Grand Vin, its second label Arômes de Pavie, and the widely distributed Esprit de Pavie.
