      Detailed Description

The 2010 Château La Confession Saint-Émilion Grand Cru (Magnum) is a magnificent, full-bodied Right Bank Bordeaux that arrives in a large-format bottle offering optimal aging conditions, deep concentration, and dramatic presence.

      Producer Information

Château La Confession is an exceptional, highly regarded estate located on the high clay-limestone plateau and sloped hillsides of Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux. Founded in 2001 by Jean-Philippe Janoueix—a dynamic, perfectionist vigneron hailing from a historic Bordeaux winemaking family established since 1867—the property was formed by merging the former Châteaux Barreau and Haut-Pontet. Managing 7.5 hectares of meticulously tended vines with an average age of over 40 years, Janoueix limits yields rigorously to craft a Merlot-dominant blend combined with a substantial percentage of Cabernet Franc and a small touch of Cabernet Sauvignon. In the cellar, his approach seamlessly balances traditional craftsmanship with creative, modern innovation; he famously utilizes cigar-shaped barrels for half of the maturation process to allow the wine to better digest its fine lees, and warm-tempers the barrels before filling them to ensure an incredibly gentle, silky extraction. The resulting grand vin is left entirely unfined and unfiltered, yielding a textbook Saint-Émilion Grand Cru celebrated for its controlled opulence, deep concentration of ripe black plum and mocha, structural tension, and mineral-driven precision.
