      Detailed Description

The 2015 Larmandier-Bernier Les Chemins d'Avize Grand Cru Extra Brut is a broad, ample, and powerful Blanc de Blancs crafted from old-vine Chardonnay in the chalk-rich terroir of Avize.

      Producer Information

Champagne Larmandier-Bernier is an elite, pioneering grower-Champagne house based in Vertus within the prestigious Côte des Blancs, officially established in 1971 through the marriage of Philippe Larmandier and Elisabeth Bernier but drawing on family grape-growing roots that date back to 1765. Led by Pierre and Sophie Larmandier, alongside their son Arthur, the estate manages 16 to 19 hectares of meticulously farmed, highly prized old vines (averaging 35 years of age) across the Premier Cru of Vertus and iconic Grand Crus including Cramant, Chouilly, Oger, and Avize. Celebrated as an early champion of sustainability, the house completely abandoned chemical treatments in 1992 and converted fully to biodynamic viticulture in 1999, relying on regular soil plowing, natural composts, and herbal infusions to achieve living, balanced soils. In the cellar, they operate with a strict non-interventionist ethos: all parcels are vinified separately, juices ferment spontaneously using only indigenous wild yeasts, and the base wines are aged on their lees for nearly a year in traditional large oak foudres and Stockinger casks without any fining or filtration. Comprising predominantly Chardonnay (around 85–90%) alongside a small amount of Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris, their exceptional portfolio—highlighted by the single-terroir, non-dosé Terre de Vertus and the profound Vieille Vigne du Levant—is defined by an extraordinarily low or zero sugar dosage, resulting in bone-dry, intensely mineral, and crystalline Champagnes that perfectly reflect their deep chalk soils.
