A landmark 2017 release and the first edition of Michter’s US-1 Toasted Barrel Finish Rye, created by taking fully matured US-1 Single Barrel Rye at barrel strength and giving it additional maturation in a specially prepared second barrel. Made from 24-month air-dried American oak that was toasted but not charred, the finishing barrel brings layers of dark toast, caramel and roasted nuts to the naturally spicy rye. Bottled at cask strength, this is a rich and intensely flavorful expression with remarkable depth.
2017 Michter's US-1 Limited Release Toasted Barrel Finish Rye Whiskey Tasting Notes
Nose: Rye spice, cinnamon and black pepper with caramel, vanilla, toasted nuts, dark chocolate and hints of dried cherry.
Palate: Rich and powerful, with caramel, toffee and vanilla followed by dark chocolate, roasted nuts, cinnamon and pronounced rye spice. Toasted oak adds depth and a subtle smoky character while maintaining the whiskey's naturally spicy profile.
Finish: Long and warming, with lingering rye spice, caramel, toasted oak, dark chocolate, cinnamon and subtle dried fruit.
