The vineyards are situated on entirely south- or southwest-facing slopes of typically slate soils on the banks of the Mosel river. This unique combination of location and soil supplies a mild mesoclimate and correspondingly long growing season whereby the slate soils absorb the sun's heat and the river acts as a reflector of the sun's rays to produce fine and fruity Riesling wines. Schloss Lieser's wines cover the spectrum from sweet to dry, with Kabinett, Spätlese, Auslese and Auslese Goldkapsel, as well as the dry Grosses Gewächs and Erste Lage classified Riesling wines. Grapes are hand-harvested and slowly fermented in the presence of natural yeasts at cool temperatures.
