      Detailed Description

The 2023 Giovanni Rosso Ester Canale Rosso Langhe Nebbiolo is a crystalline, deeply evocative red wine that captures the legendary pedigree of its historic Vigna Rionda parcel in Serralunga d'Alba.

      Producer Information

Giovanni Rosso is a highly revered, family-owned wine estate based in Serralunga d'Alba within Italy's Barolo zone of Piedmont, celebrated for crafting exceptionally elegant, site-specific wines that serve as a transparent reflection of their unique terroirs. While the Rosso family has cultivated vineyards in the region since the 1890s, a defining turning point occurred in the early 1980s when Giovanni Rosso modernly restructured their holdings to pursue pristine fruit quality, followed by the 2001 arrival of his son, Davide Rosso. Armed with formal oenological training in France, Davide took full control of vinification and élevage, expanding their Piedmont footprint to roughly 22 hectares and expanding the family’s terroir obsession to the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily in 2016. Certified for sustainability under the Equalitas standard, the estate manages an elite collection of roughly 11 prestigious crus exclusively in Serralunga d'Alba—including Cerretta, La Serra, Broglio, and Meriame—anchored by their absolute crown jewel parcel acquired in 2011: a historic plot of 70-year-old vines in the legendary Vignarionda cru inherited through Davide's mother, Ester Canale. In the cellar, winemaking is strictly non-interventionist, avoiding all chemicals and employing spontaneous fermentations with native yeasts before aging single-vineyard Nebbiolos for up to several years in traditional large French oak fuder barrels. This purist approach yields a globally coveted portfolio anchored by their flagship Barolo Ester Canale Rosso Vignarionda, alongside classic Barolo village blends, Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera d'Alba, and their mineral-driven Sicilian Nerello Mascalese and Carricante bottlings, all defined by a striking, fine-grained structural longevity, vibrant tension, and profound savory complexity.
