Tan Fruit is an innovative, highly acclaimed micro-négoce wine project based in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, launched in 2019 by third-generation winemaker Jim Maresh of the iconic Arterberry Maresh estate. Conceived as a playground for experimentation entirely untethered from his family’s traditional, estate-grown Dundee Hills portfolio, Maresh created the label out of a desire to craft elite, world-class Chardonnays that could rival top-tier white Burgundy without the prohibitive price tag. Rather than limiting production to the family farm, Tan Fruit broadens its horizons by sourcing exceptional, old-vine fruit from a diverse network of legendary Willamette Valley vineyards—including Maresh Vineyard, Eyrie Vineyard, White Walnut, and Dupee—capturing a multi-faceted expression of Oregon's varied terroirs. In the cellar, Maresh deploys an uncompromising minimalist philosophy tailored for energy and longevity: he practices early harvesting, non-interventionist wild yeast fermentations, bone-dry fermentations, and a hybrid aging process utilizing a mix of stainless steel tanks and neutral French oak barrels with completely avoided reductive or buttery traits.
