Domaine de la Chapelle is an elite, independent wine estate located in the prestigious Hermitage appellation of France's Northern Rhône Valley, officially established as a distinct property in 2021 by the Frey family to separately house and elevate their historic, legendary namesake cuvées. Spanning 26 hectares of hallowed, steeply terraced vineyards on the iconic Hermitage hill, the estate’s holdings are distributed across some of the region's most celebrated climats—including the stony, iron-rich parcels of Le Méal, Les Bessards, Rocoules, and Greffieux—featuring ancient Syrah, Marsanne, and Roussanne vines managed under a rigorous organic and biodynamic framework. In a historic move in March 2026, the estate appointed Chiara Pepe (of Italy's renowned artisanal Emidio Pepe estate) as head of viticulture and winemaking, reinforcing their commitment to natural, site-specific viticulture. Cellar operations follow an uncompromising, parcel-by-parcel micro-vinification approach where the flagship red Hermitage La Chapelle blends the decadent, opulent fruit of Le Méal with the powerful, mineral-driven skeletal structure of Les Bessards, undergoing a long extraction and aging in traditional oak casks to produce a wine universally celebrated for its profound density, complex notes of graphite and black fruit, and legendary, decades-long cellaring potential.
