Producer Information
Mullineux & Leeu Family Wines is an elite, globally acclaimed wine producer based in South Africa, established in 2007 by the husband-and-wife team of Chris and Andrea Mullineux. Originally launched in the rugged Swartland region to champion the area's ancient, dry-farmed terroirs, the estate achieved a monumental evolution in 2013 by partnering with entrepreneur Analjit Singh to expand their viticultural footprint. Today, the family operates across two distinct properties: their original home estate at Roundstone Farm in Riebeek-Kasteel, which remains exclusively focused on Swartland Syrah and Chenin Blanc, and the state-of-the-art Leeu Passant winery at Leeu Estates in Franschhoek, which crafts multi-regional wines inspired by historic Cape heritage. Revered as multi-time recipients of Platter’s South African Winery of the Year, the couple pursues a strictly low-intervention, natural cellar philosophy: hand-harvested white varieties undergo a slow whole-bunch pressing and spontaneous wild-yeast fermentation in older French oak fuders with zero chemical adjustments or bâtonnage, while their reds utilize high whole-cluster inclusion and age unfined and unfiltered. Their legendary portfolio is masterfully structured around four foundational soil types—decomposed granite, schist, quartz, and iron—yielding an astonishing array of chiseled, mineral-driven single-terroir bottlings, highly allocated signature estate blends, and their world-famous, sun-dried Straw Wine dessert cuvée that stand as benchmarks of the modern South African wine revolution.
