A fascinating experiment from Buffalo Trace’s Experimental Collection, this 12-year-old wheated bourbon explores the effect of reducing proof during maturation. After four years in Warehouse C, the bourbon was removed from the barrel and cut with water from 114 proof to 100 proof before being returned to the same barrel for another eight years. The unusual maturation process produced a remarkably smooth and creamy whiskey with layers of honey, butterscotch, vanilla and mature oak.

Nose: Sweet and floral with vanilla, honey and soft oak, followed by light leather and delicate grain notes.
Palate: Creamy and smooth, with butterscotch, honey and caramel balanced by vanilla and mature wood. Subtle baking spice and toasted grain add depth.
Finish: Crisp and moderately long, with lingering honey, butterscotch, vanilla and oak alongside a gentle touch of spice.
