One of the young apprentices, and the painter of the small tousle-haired dog and the gleaming fish Tobias carries, was Leonardo da Vinci. We love the beauty in the work, and the symbolism of the naïve boy and the divine angel. It speaks to how we see the relationship between the ethereal character of the 24-year-old whisky, sourced from the Clynelish Distillery, and the aromatic smokiness exhibited by the considerably older spirit from Caol Ila Distillery. Like the painting, this whisky charms and dazzles. He originally launched the business from his kitchen, but today, over a decade later, Compass Box has an office and Blending Room in London, its own stocks of maturing whiskies in Scotland, and just over a dozen employees.
