Fundada por Malcolm McNeill, un destacado agricultor y destilador en 1817, cerca de Port Askaig, Lossit comenzó como el mayor productor de whisky en Islay hasta que cerró en 1867. Utilizaban barricas de roble puro y ex-jerez. Las barricas de Jerez infundieron un sabor frutal dulce y picante al licor añejo.
