The estate is jointly overseen by the Pradel de Lavaux and Boüard de Laforest families. Since 2007, the wines are made by the team at Hubert de Boüard de Laforest's Château Angélus winery, which lies a stone's throw to the south of the Bellevue property. The Château Bellevue estate covers almost ten hectares (25 acres), of which 6.8 hectares (17 acres) is vineyard planted to Merlot. A tiny portion of Cabernet Franc was ripped out in 2015. The property, which includes two hectares (five acres) of parkland dotted with trees, lies almost two kilometers (1.2 miles) due west of Saint-Émilion town. The château building is a former 17th Century Carthusian monastery site once belonging to the Lacaze family. Through a succession of Lacazes, it was inherited in the mid twentieth Century by a first cousin of the family, Louis Horeau, who took over the property in 1938. Horeau's sons-in-law, Jacques Pradel de Lavaux and René de Coninck, then took over the running of the estate. In 2000, famed Bordeaux consultants Nicolas Thienpont and Stéphane Derenoncourt oversaw upgrading the château's wines and its vineyards. In 2007, the de Coninck family sold its share in Château Bellevue to Château Angélus and the Boüard de Laforest family. In 2006 the estate had been demoted from Grand Cru Classé to Grand Cru. It was reinstated under the new owners in 2008. The vineyard is entirely hand-harvested and the wines are fermented in a mix of concrete, oak and stainless steel. The wines are then aged in oak for 16-20 months. Around 20,000 bottles are produced annually. Reviews:

        • Wine Advocate: Made under the guidance of Hubert du Bouard, this blend of primarily Merlot and a tiny dollop of Cabernet Franc (around 9%) from the limestone soils on the hillsides of St.-Emilion exhibits a dense purple color, lots of chalky minerality and a big, sweet perfume of boysenberries, blackberries, licorice and burning embers. It is full-bodied and opulent with an abundance of fruit, glycerin, power and silkiness. Some tannins lurking in the finish suggest a half dozen years of cellaring will be required.
        • James Suckling: Plush, with linzer torte and cassis flavors harnessed by a plum skin frame, while sweet spice and toasted apple wood notes flesh out the finish.
