Rum: Botran Reserva

Botran Reserva is a delicious Guatemalan rum aged for between 5 and 14 years.

Size: 750mL

Proof: 80 (40% ABV)

Origin: Mexico

Distillery: Industrias Licoreras de Guatemala

Detailed Description

The blenders at Ron Botran utilize a version of the old winemaking technique known as a solera meant to harness the freshness of young spirits in conjunction with the depth and complexity of old. However, unlike in a true solera where the old and new are blended together for inception, here the rums are aged separately then blended and aged together as a final step. The rums used in this expression range from between 5 and 14 years and are aged in a combination of American whisky, sherry and port barrels. It should also be noted that the rums are distilled from fresh sugarcane honey and not molasses.

Botran Reserva Rum Tasting Notes

Nose: A big and spicy nose chock full of all spice, cacao, banana, fresh peppermint and root beer.

Palate: The flavors are deep and dark with cashew, cinnamon, allspice, vanilla bean, cherries.

Finish: Hint of rubber on finish.

Distillery Information

Situated over 1,000 feet above sea level in southwestern Guatemala, the Ron Botran Plantation enjoys generous amount of sunlight and mineral-rich, volcanic soils, making it ideal for the cultivation of fresh, raw sugar cane. There, expert farmers — many of whom have been tending to the land for decades — carefully analyze the sugar cane as it matures on the estate, harvesting only the canes that contain high levels of sucrose and fiber and low levels of impurities.
