      Maison Champy is the oldest wine company in Burgundy boasting a history dating back to 1720. Today the company owns 52 acres of vineyards that are farmed organically in order to showcase the true character of each terroir. Its old winery was designed by the famed architect Gustave Eiffel and sits above an ancient 15th century Jacobin monk cellar. This release is the maison’s 1949 ‘Beaune-Avaux’, of which only few bottles remain available on the market. The dry and warm summer conditions of 1949 ripened the grapes nicely, which resulted in a fine harvest at the end of September. An outstanding vintage for both red and white Burgundy.

        Maison Champy is the oldest wine company in Burgundy boasting a history dating back to 1720. Maison Champy runs a large part of its 21 ha of vines on the Côte de Beaune – especially in Pernand-Vergelesses – organically in order to preserve and highlight the true character of this exceptional terroir. Precision wine growing is Maison Champy’s objective. The importance of the environment means that every single treatment follows the practices of sustainable and organic farming.The winery, which has been declared a historic monument by UNESCO, was designed by the famed architect, Gustave Eiffel and sits above an ancient 15th-century Jacobin monk cellar, where the wines are aged in the heart of Beaune.
