Detailed Description
Detailed Description
The Barolo Granbussia of Poderi Aldo Conterno winery is one of the most prestigious Barolo wines, made with Nebbiolo grapes, cultivated in the oldest and best vineyards of the Bussia cru, in Monforte d'Alba. After aging for more than 30 months in oak barrels and for six years in bottle, it has a nice ruby red color with garnet nuances and complex and fruity aromas, with notes of berries, tobacco and chocolate. Very elegant wine, pleasant and deep in the mouth, the Barolo Granbussia is a wine to be enjoyed in special occasions with succulent meat courses, but also with blue cheeses and well-seasoned cheeses.
Reviews:
- Wine Spectator: Alluring aromas of cherry, plum, sandalwood, rose and wild herbs highlight this expressive red. Deceptive, starting out elegant, until the dense weave of tannins emerges on the long, mineral-tinged finish.
- James Suckling: Glorious aromas of roses and other flowers with blackberries and ripe plums. Spectacular. Perfection. Full-bodied, firm and chewy with polished and tight tannins. Slightly dusty. Great length and beauty. Very, very persistent on the palate. Needs another two or three years to soften, but already a classic.
Producer Information
Aldo Conterno founded his winery in the sixties, after the division of the legacy of his father James, one of the central figures of Italian post-war. Today the company, a sort of monumental fortress in the center of Bussia Monteforte, is undoubtedly one of the biggest names not only of the Langhe, but around the world of Italian wine. Here are some of the greatest Barolo born of history, beginning with numerous memorable versions of Granbussia, a reserve produced only in great vintages. The current style is affected to a greater extent than before, the contribution of the oak, however, preserving adequate structural strength and a careful extraction of tannin.
