Producer Information
Château Chauvin is a Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé estate lying 3.5km (2.1 miles) northwest of St-Emilion town itself. The property covers 15 hectares (37 acres) and is planted to Merlot (75 percent), Cabernet Franc (20 percent) and Cabernet Sauvignon (five percent). The property was originally part of the wider Corbin estate (a title that still lends its name to the likes of Château Corbin, Grand Corbin-Despagne and Grand Corbin. The Chauvin portion of the estate was sold to Jean Fourcaud-Laussacat (who had also acquired Château Cheval Blanc) at auction in 1852. The four-hectare (ten-acre) estate was then bought by businessman Victor Ondet in 1891. His son Georges took over in 1911 and grandson Henri followed in his footsteps. Under Hneri Ondet, Chauvin was classified a Grand Cru in the original 1955 Saint-Emilion classification. Its running was taken over by daughters Béatrice and Marie-France Ondet who sold the château to Sylvie Cazes (co-owner of highly regarded Médoc fifth growth, Château Lynch-Bages) in May 2014 . Cazes runs the property with her daughter, Julie Régimbeau. The estate produces a second wine, Folie de Chauvin, and, in total, makes around 50,000 bottles of wine annually.
