                            Producer Information

Domaine de la Chapelle is the new, distinct estate identity for the famous Hermitage red wine and its white counterpart Le Chevalier de Sterimberg. Both were formerly labelled as part of the Domaine Paul Jaboulet Aîné portfolio. The change is intended to recognize the work done by President and winemaker Caroline Frey since her arrival in 2005 and giving a clearer indication of excellence. Accordingly, a new dedicated winery is under construction as of 2023. The wines are now to be released to the market via the Place de Bordeaux to brokerage markets. There are 26 hectares (64 acres) of vineyard; the Jaboulet family have owned vines on the Hermitage slopes since 1919. The conversion to organic farming began soon after Frey took the reins, with certification achieved in 2016. The vines have been biodynamically farmed since 2018. This is made from Syrah from the most stony sections of the Méal, Bessard, Rocoules and Greffieux parcels. Vines are between 40 and 100 years old. The wine is prized for its silkiness, dark fruit characters and tight tannic structure. It is capable of ageing gracefully over many decades.
