      Detailed Description

2017 is an early vintage. Harvests started on August 29th, the grape clusters were dense and compact thanks to excellent flowering in late May. Favorable climate conditions gave charm and generosity to the wines. 2017 is a classic style of vintage that can also be enjoyed in its youth. The wines are smooth and round with discreet tannins and good sugar levels. These seductive wines are quite similar to the 2007 and 2011 vintages although with a more fleshy palate.

        Reviews:

        • Vinous: The 2017 Nuit Saint-Georges Les Damodes 1er Cru comes from shallows soils. It has a lively bouquet of vivacious crushed strawberry and cassis, all neatly integrated with the oak, around 50% new. The medium-bodied palate is linear and correct, offering crisp tannin, firm in grip and a terse, stony finish. Give this two or three years in bottle.
        • Wine Advocate: The 2017 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Porêts-Saint-Georges is showing very well from bottle, unfurling in the glass with aromas of wild berries, cassis, candied peel, incense and spices, gently framed by a deft application of new oak that's already nicely integrated. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, supple and fleshy, with ripe but lively acids, a fleshy core of mouthwatering fruit and fine framing tannins, concluding with good length on the finish. The style of the vintage makes this an unusually open, forward rendition of Faiveley's Les Porêts-Saint-Georges, and it will offer a broad drinking window.

        Producer Information

In 1825, Pierre Faiveley founded the firm that now bears the name Domaine Faiveley. At that time, the firm was a classic négociant, buying and selling wine. From generation to generation, with a strong commitment to the quality of Burgundy’s patrimony, the Faiveley family has purchased vineyards and is among the largest owners of classified vineyards in the Côte de Nuits, Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise. Their holdings total 331 acres, of which, 30 acres are grands crus and 67 acres are premiers crus.
The objective of the family today, led by Erwan Faiveley, is to increase the firm’s holdings of great vineyards so that there can be complete control from vine to bottle across the entire range of wines. Along with this focus, Erwan Faiveley has renovated the Domaines cellars—in both Nuits-Saints-George and Mercurey—which now boast state of the art barrel presses, custom-designed wooden vats, and among the finest air-cured oak casks available in the world.
