2018 | Grace Family Vineyards | Cabernet Sauvignon

A nice blitz of loganberry and boysenberry fruit leads off without being bombastic, while violet and graphite accents lend support and keep it fresh and driven. Has a toasty, tobacco-fueled edge on the finish and the delineation is terrific.

• Vinous: The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon emerges from the upper blocks on the estate. It is a fabulous wine that captures all the pedigree of this St. Helena site. Towering in stature, the 2018 possesses tremendous balance and class. Black cherry, gravel, crushed rocks, spice, lavender and chocolate all build in the glass. The 2018 needs time to soften, but it is super-impressive. This a tremendous showing from Grace.

• James Suckling: Such beautiful aromas of blackcurrants, sage and flowers. Black raspberries and blackberries, too, as well as mineral undertones. Full-bodied with a superb, very fine and dusty tannin texture. The tannins are really fine and manicured. Very cool, with a long, long finish. 150 cases made and only from the upper part of the vineyard. Drink in 2025 and onwards.

Producer Information

Grace Family Vineyards is a Napa Valley producer, located in St. Helena. It produces a duo of limited release single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon wines. Proprietors Dick and Ann Grace purchased the estate in 1976, harvesting their inaugural commercial crop in 1978. Grace Family vineyards were one of the first producers in the US to produce a Nappy Valley designated wine. The flagship Grace Family Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is complimented by Blank, an additional Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from vineyards in Rutherford. In the winery, French oak barrels are sourced for aging with the Grace Family Estate spending up to 20 months in barrel prior to bottling. Grace Family Vineyards' first wines were produced by Charlie Wagner at Caymus, who also produced wine from the Grace's fruit under his well-known label. The wines have been produced in-house since 1985 by some of Napa Valley's most esteemed winemakers including Wagner, Gary Galleron, Heidi Barrett, and Gary Brookman.
