Red Wine: 2019 | Laurent Ponsot | Chambertin Cuvee du Chene

Elegant wine. On the attack there is a full range of fruit, from ripe blackberry through to high-toned pomegranate, accented by notes of smoke and spice. The palate is tense and displays mineral depth, with a silky vibrancy but also richness and depth. Nothing is wanting, really, for a super Chambertin that should age for decade. Marvellous. Definitely worth trying!

      Detailed Description

Elegant wine. This Clos de BĂšze impresses with pronounced, ripe aromas of black plum, cherry and a complex depth of flavour that includes elements of earth, mineral and spice. The texture on the palate is dense but open, velvety and approachable, with the extract and tannin to age, but nothing to impede early enjoyment. Definitely worth trying!

        Reviews:

        • Decanter: Very successful. Marvellous.
        • Allen Meadows: This was the only wine in the range to display any appreciable reduction and while it did mask the detail of the fruit, it seemed clear that it was ripe. Otherwise there is a distinctly cool and restrained mouthfeel to the tautly muscular and refined if powerful big-bodied flavors that brim with both minerality and sappy dry extract that serves to buffer the very firm but not hard tannic spine on the hugely long finale.

            Producer Information

After 36 years at Domaine Ponsot, Laurent Ponsot left the family domaine in February of 2017 to pursue a new wine adventure. He is joined in this new endeavor by his son, ClĂ©ment, whose excitement for winemaking is as strong as his own, while his other two children, Claire and Nicolas, also hold shares in the company. Embodying his pioneering spirit, the company is named after Laurent himself who values humility, respects nature, and enjoys above all else the great pleasure of winemaking. Laurent’s resolute quest for an alliance between history and innovation continues, and he will retain all of the fruits of his past research, such as the perfect closure, Ă©levage without sulfur but under neutral gas, temperature-controlled “intelligent cases”, and the protection of authenticity. Through these innovations, his goal, as always, will be to provide consummate, authentic examples of great Burgundy wines.
