A Spirits Shop' Selection bottling of Caol Ila single malt, distilled in 2010 and matured for 12 years in a single hogshead. A total of 308 bottles were released in 2023, boasting a robust ABV of 57.5%, and a very snug-looking kitty on the label.

Nose: Zesty notes of salted lemons join oaken vanilla, with waves of oily barley and dense, tarry peat smoke.

Palate: A tangle of creamy custard and maritime smoke, with salted caramel and candied ginger beneath.

Finish: Coastal peat lingers alongside hints of stewed stone fruit, cracked black pepper, and oak char.

Distillery Information

Caol Ila was founded to the North of Islay in 1846 by the pleasingly-named Hector Henderson. It is located near Port Askaig and sits in lush, floral surroundings, overlooking the cove and the Paps of southern Jura. The distillery draws its water from Loch Nam Ban, whose waters travel through limestone and peat before reaching their beneficiary, Caol Ila.
