Garrison Brothers Cowboy 2009 Bourbon Whiskey

There is a LOT to say about Garrison Brothers Cowboy Bourbon. They take the top handful of barrels of their Texas Straight Bourbon made from 100% Panhandle yellow-dent corn and then give a little extra time in the wood. Then they bottle it up. That’s it. No filtration, no cutting to proof with water, no blending… they just tip the barrel over and pour it into bottles at 67.5% ABV. This liquid Texas treasure is as dark and rich as molasses and tasty as you will ever have. Jim Murray of “The Whiskey Bible” fame called it “American Micro Whiskey of the Year.” They don’t release it every year and the quantity is always limited.

Garrison Brothers Cowboy 2009 Bourbon Whiskey Tasting Notes

Nose: Rough leather, orange marmalade, whole vanilla bean.

Palate: Incredibly rich and almost thick with roasted dates and figs and exotic fruits cooked on a grill.

Finish: Dark fruit and steel-cut oats with hot charred wood.

Distillery Information

Dan Garrison -- an ex-marketing executive for a tech company -- founded Garrison Bros. in 2008, after being laid off by a former employer.Garrison put a few investors and family members together, and started selling product contract from other distilleries. After a few years they generated enough resources and market interest to officially launch a distillery in 2008, about 60 miles west of Austin in the tiny town of Hye, Texas.
