Detailed Description

Midleton Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection Chapter One is the only release in this collection to have been created as a peated single malt – pure innovation for Irish whiskey at the time, and rare still today. Decades in the making, the third-fill sherry cask that has influenced this whiskey has been lying dormant for 45 years. This makes it one of the world’s rarest whiskeys by its very nature. The cask contributes notes of ripe honeydew melon, red berries and sweet spices of toasted oak.

Midleton 45 Year Old Peated Single Malt | Very Rare Silent Distillery Collection Tasting Notes

Nose: Very rich in deep, dark spices on a gratifying foundation of antique oak. A twist of grapefruit will raise an earthy note of freshly cut peat, along with chamois leather. The very old hogshead cask seasoned with sherry wine adds a touch of ripe honeydew melon and red berries as well as the toasted oak sweet spices.

Palate: Rich instantly with the initial peppery spices slowly softening as the malted barley effect shines through. Liquorice root, barley sugar and honey add some flavor, with a bit of sherbet only giving it a little shine. All sit on strong toasted oak foundation.

Finish: Rich spices are slow to fade, and malted barley.

Distillery Information

From its beginnings on the banks of the crystalline Dungourney River, Midleton Distillery’s links with the land run deep and long. Of course whiskey is also the lifeblood of a people and their aspirations. And this town has always been a pioneering community, from the moment the Murphy family started to distil here in 1825. The new Midleton Disillery and its unique single pot still whiskey have continued that symbiotic connection with the land and its people. The Cork of today still sings in perfect harmony with the distillery. It is part of this place and part of a people who still transform their bounty, into their legacy. Midleton Very Rare has only ever come from here. It is its home.
