Tomintoul 1973 50 Year Old Vintage Double Wood Matured Single Malt Scotch Whisky | 700ML

Distilled in February 1973, the rare single malt was initially matured for 33 years in American oak ex-bourbon barrels in Tomintoul’s Cairngorms warehouse. Before being filled into a single Oloroso Sherry hogshead cask.

Tomintoul 1973 50 Year Old Vintage Double Wood Matured Single Malt Scotch Whisky | 700ML Tasting Notes

Nose: A bouquet reminiscent of old sherry bodegas with aromas of roast pecans, praline, fruitcake and leather.

Palate: Opulent and rich with overlapping layers of crème caramel, toasted oak, rolling tobacco and treacle mingled with stout, cacao and a hint of liquorice.

Finish: Complex and long with notes of caramelised nuts, star anise, dark chocolate ganache fading into stem ginger and gentle spices.

Distillery Information

Strong & Co. and Hay & HacLeod & Co from Glasgow established Tomintoul Distillery Ltd. in 1964, and in July 1965 the Tomintoul Distillery was founded. The company only ran the distillery for less than a decade and sold it to Scottish & Universal Investment Trust in 1973.
