      Detailed Description

The 1990 Château Latour exhibits remarkable consistency. On the nose, expect ripe black fruit, crème de cassis, black cherry, caramel, cedar, lead pencil, spices and mineral notes. The palate reveals excellent concentration, a silky and sensual texture, well-balanced acidity, and a prolonged finish dominated by more black fruit with hints of caramel and lead pencil.

      Reviews:

      • Wine Advocate: Tasted blind at The Arches. Poured from magnum, the 1990 Latour is a tour de force. It displays immense purity and precision on the nose with graphite and tobacco scents, a hint of dried rose petal and mahogany bureau developing with time. The palate is surprisingly backwards considering that it is already over two decades old. It is underpinned with very well judged acidity that lends it poise and grace. But the headline is simple the unadulterated, astounding exhibition of Cabernet Sauvignon that drives the 1990 forward to its intense crushed stone finish where you can almost taste those Pauillac pebbles.
      • Wine Spectator: This is one of my favorite wines ever. Full-bodied, with layers of silky fruit and masses of currant, mineral and berry character. Amazing. It's a wine with perfect structure, perfect strength. It's 1961 Latour in modern clothes.

Château Latour is one of Bordeaux's – and the world's – most famous wine producers. It is situated in the southeast corner of the Pauillac commune on the border of Saint-Julien, in the Médoc region. Rated as a First Growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, it has become one of the most sought-after and expensive wine producers on the planet, and produces powerfully structured Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant wines capable of lasting many decades. The Château Latour history, classified as Premier Grand Cru in the 1855 classification, started in the 14th century when they built a fortified tower during the One Hundred Years War. Until the end of the 16th century, Latour was a co-lordship whose co-owners received rent from farmers who cultivated lands, some of which were already dedicated to the culture of the vines. Then, in the 18th century, the winegrowing saga speeded up when the marquis Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur, the “Prince of the vines”, also owner of Château Calon Ségur and Lafite, became the owner of the estate. Since 1993, François Pinault and the Artémis group have been the majority owner (93%) and 7% has belonged to the Ségur family’s heirs.

The palate reveals excellent concentration, a silky and sensual texture, well-balanced acidity, and a prolonged finish dominated by more black fruit with hints of caramel and lead pencil.
