      Detailed Description

The 2006 is an astonishing wine with unbelievably complex layers of black fruit, kirsch, baking spice, juniper, lavender, earth and tobacco. It is full-bodied and loaded with fruit, yet supremely balanced by super-fine tannins and refreshing acidity.

        Reviews:

        • Wine Advocate: Deep garnet colored, the 2006 The Laird offers a multi-faceted nose of ripe black berries, blueberry preserves and kirsch aromas with an underlying perfume of baking spices, lavender, cinnamon stick and cloves plus some savory / earthy nuances, including bacon, black tea, tobacco and forest floor. The palate is full bodied and densely packed with fruit, savory and earth flavors while supported by a firm level of very fine-grained tannins and refreshing acidity. It finishes very long and while already incredibly complex, promises a lot more to come.
        • James Suckling: This shows chocolate berry. Full and flavorful. Chewy and rich with lots of berry and cherry character. Old school but on it.

        Producer Information

Torbreck, founded in 1994 by David Powell, is situated at Marananga on the western ridge of the Barossa. Since that time he has produced some of the world's finest 'Rhone varietal' wines, exclusively from Barossa fruit; this has been acknowledged by the wine press in Europe, America and Australia. The overwhelming majority of his vines are dry-grown, nearly all are 80 - 125 years old and are tended and harvested by hand. The wines have an extraordinary combination of power, intesity, complexity and great finesse, and bearing in mind the age of the vines and the laughably low yields, no Torbreck wine could ever be accused of being heavy, cloying or over-extracted.
