      Detailed Description

Bright yellow. Intense bouquet of candied lemon, muscat, and honeysuckle flavors intermixed with sweet notes of ripened apricot and fresh quince. Full-bodied, seamless, refined and complex.

        Reviews:

        • Wine Advocate: Readers should not miss the 2008 La Proportion Doree, a 660-case blend of 68% Semillon, 30% Sauvignon Blanc, and 2% Muscadelle. It is a superb example of what can be done with French savoir-faire and California grapes. Glorious aromas of honeyed caramelized figs, honeysuckle, melons, and orange blossoms are followed by a medium to full-bodied white with beautiful acidity, length, and richness. A tour de force in dry white winemaking.
        • Stephen Tanzer: Good bright yellow. Highly nuanced aromas of peach, apricot, citrus peel, honeysuckle and ginger. Densely packed, broad and sweet, with a layered texture and considerable viscosity to the flavors of ripe quince, citrus oil, flowers and spices. This blend boasts terrific lift considering its full ripeness. Morlet will hold back 200 six-packs of this wine for a later release, as he is eager to show collectors how Semillon with Sauvignon and Muscadelle will gain complexity as it ages. Made from a blend of seven vineyards, as Morlet recently found some Semillon vines that he says are more than a century old.

        Producer Information

Morlet Family Vineyards is a wine producer located in St. Helena, California. It produces a range of single-vineyard wines from Napa Valley and Sonoma County, from the area's key grape varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Syrah. The estate was founded by Jodie and Luc Morlet, whose family owns Pierre Morlet & Fils in Champagne, France. The estate consists of vineyards in Oakville, St. Helena, and Knights Valley, and has long-terrm contracts with vineyards in Fort Ross-Seaview, Russian River Valley, Bennett Valley, Dry Creek and Napa Valley. Each site is planted to the grape varieties that respond best to the individual terroir. Morlet's approach to winemaking is minimalist and Old World in style, using classical techniques from Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne. The grapes are picked by hand, then destemmed and double-sorted when they reach the St. Helena winery. Native yeasts carry out the fermentation process, and wines are aged in French oak barrels before release. Morlet Family Vineyard's wines are sold through mailing list and in high-profile restaurants around the world. Top-rated wines from the estate include the white Bordeaux-style blend La Proportion Dorée, the Bouquet Garni Syrah, the Coeur de Vallée Cabernet Sauvignon. There are also multiple expressions of Pinot Noir from the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA.
