      Producer Information

Cerbaiona is a small but highly regarded Brunello di Montalcino producer of the Toscana wine region, Italy. Cerbaiona's Brunello and Rosso di Montalcino wines are considered to be some of the very best in Montalcino. Toscana IGT wines are made under the M.L. Fioretti label. Diego Molinari purchased the Cerbaiona estate with his wife, Nora, in the late 1970s, on his retirement. In 2015, with Molinari in his 80s the estate was purchased by a group of investors including venture capitalist Gary Rieschel and the current manager, Matthew Fioretti. Fioretti's first Brunello bottling was the 2016, which was released in 2021. The 2014 and 2015 wines were declassified to Rosso di Montalcino. To the chagrin of collectors, Fioretti has declared the winery a "No Scores Zone". Numerical ratings of wines post 2016 are therefore hard to find.
Molinari was influenced by the older bottles of Brunello he tasted, particularly those made by Biondi Santi, and chose to dedicate himself to making wine in the traditional method, rather than following more modern trends. He planted three hectares of vineyard with Sangiovese cuttings from Biondi Santi, and the first vintage of Cerbaiona was released in 1982. Under the current team the vineyards have all been replanted and converted to organic farming. A steep former olive grove, previously seen as too labor-intensive to be planted with vines, is now regarded as one of the best plots. There are now around four hecates (10 acres) of vines spread across a 20-hectare property.
