      Detailed Description

The color is an intense ruby red with faintly garnet tones. The initial aromatic sensations are sweetish and vanilla-like, typical of wines matured in barriques. The clean, ethereal bouquet then highlights Sangiovese’s spicy notes.

      Reviews:

      • Decanter: Aromas of rosemary, truffle, wild berries and oak. The palate is polished, tangy and crisp with flavours of red fruits and oak with quite a long, slightly saline, finish.
      • James Suckling: This has settled into a nice groove, with ripe black currant and black cherry flavors, augmented by notes of iron, tar, wild Mediterranean herbs and pine. Rich, dense and balanced, with the structure to age. Fine length. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

      Producer Information

Lamole di Lamole is a Tuscan wine producer situated in the Chianti Classico region. It makes a portfolio of classic Chianti wines based on regional grape varieties led by Sangiovese. The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto di Campolungo sits at the top of the range, above a pair of Chianti Classico cuvées and a Riserva. Lam'oro is a Toscana IGT made from Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate also makes a Vin Santo del Chianti Classico. The vines are planted on south-facing slopes at altitudes between 350 and 550 meters (1150 and 1800ft) above sea level. Generally, the soils are manganese- and iron-rich, and are extremely permeable. The oldest of these vineyards was planted to vine in 1945 and is situated next to the Lamole di Lamole winery that has its origins in the 14th century. The estate can trace its origins back more than 700 years. In the Middle Ages, the vineyards of Lamole were so valued by the Gherardini family that they constructed a fortified castle in 1350 in order to safeguard them. By the 19th Century the hamlet of Lamole was famed for its Chianti wines, with several citations from the era describing it as one of the "cradles" of Chianti fine wine. Lamole di Lamole was acquired by Santa Margherita in 1993. This signified the beginning of extensive restoration and development works in the vineyards, including the reconstruction of the terraced vineyard system and the implementation of organic farming methods. The estate's historic winemaking facilities have also been extended. A more contemporary wine cellar has been added in Lamole and a modern production area in Greti, Chianti.
