The 2017 Chardonnay Ma Belle Fille comes bounding out of the glass with all the joy and energy of a new puppy, featuring pronounced notes of apricot tart, honey toast, ginger snaps and lemon curd over a core of warm pears, apple pie and allspice, plus a hint of beeswax. Full-bodied, the palate is beautifully creamy and opulent with loads of spicy accents supporting the stone fruit layers, finishing with great freshness and minerality.

• Wine Advocate: A barrel sample with fruit from Hudson, Calera and two types of Old Wente clones, the 2017 Chardonnay Ma Belle Fille has beautiful, sophisticated citrus notes of lemon curd, pink grapefruit and yuzu over a pear, peach and apple pie core with touches of exotic fruits, nutmeg, toasted almonds and talc. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with amazing vibrancy countered by a beautifully creamy texture and long, mineral-driven finish.

• Vinous:The 2017 Chardonnay Ma Belle-Fille brings together so many of the elements that make the Peter Michael Chardonnays so distinctive. Bright aromatics and saline underpinnings give the Belle-Fille energy and drive. Citrus peel, dried flowers, chamomile, sage and mint add a distinctly savory quality to this broad, beautifully structured Chardonnay. The Belle-Fille seems to benefit from the diversity created through a mix of Calera, Hudson, Hyde and Montrachet clones

In 1982, after six years of searching for land to serve as both vineyard and family retreat, Sir Peter Michael and Lady Michael purchased 630 acres of volcanic ridges on the western face of Mount St. Helena in Knights Valley. Following Sir Peters "100 by 100" vision 100% family ownership for at least 100 years and drawing inspiration from the great wineries of Burgundy and Bordeaux, the family hired like-minded viticulturists and winemakers to help them create terroir-driven wines that would stand the test of time. Today, with the support of son, Paul, and Paul's wife Emily, the Peter Michael winery still adheres to its original founding principles of mountain vineyards, classical winemaking, and limited production.The estate vineyards rest on steep hillsides ranging in elevation from 1000 to nearly 2000 feet. With 120 acres under vine, the winery is known for single-vineyard and estate grown Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Pinot Noir. Under the direction of winemaker Nicolas Morlet (who joined in Dec 2005), all Peter Michael wines are made using a non-interventionist, neo-classical approach, which relies on traditional, hands-on winemaking methods blended with the best of modern technology.
