Producer Information
Château Mazeyres is a wine estate based in northern Libourne, in the southern sector of the Pomerol appellation of northeastern Bordeaux. The estate produces two wines: the eponymous grand vin, Château Mazeyres; and a second wine, Le Seuil de Mazeyres. The estate boasts 25.5 hectares (63.0 acres) of vineyard planted predominantly to Merlot (73 percent), with 24 percent Cabernet Franc (24 percent) and three percent Petit Verdot. The vineyards have been organically certified since 2015 and biodynamically certified since 2018 (although they have been grown biodynamically since 2011. These proportions are broadly reflected in the blend of the final wines (although this will vary, depending on the season). Grapes are hand-harvested and sorted prior to fermentation in concrete and stainless steel vats. The wines are aged in oak (of which 30 percent are new barrels) with a portion (20 percent) aged in ovoid 700-liter concrete vats. The estate has been owned by French retirement investment fund Caisse de Retraite de la Société Générale since 1988. The latter passed the estate onto its life insurance arm, Sogecap, in 2010 although it is run by prominent Bordeaux figure, Alain Moueix, who has been at the estate since 1992.
