Distillery Information

Domaine Jean Jacques Confuron is a well-regarded wine producer located in Premeaux, near Nuits-Saint-Georges in the Côte de Nuits, Burgundy. The domaine boasts eight hectares (19 acres) of vines across 14 appellations – primarily in the Côte de Nuits. Its focus is on red wines made from Pinot Noir. Confuron's vineyard holdings include half-hectare (1.2-acre) plots in the prestigious grand cru vineyards Clos de Vougeot and Romanée-Saint-Vivant. Premier cru holdings include Les Beaux Monts (Vosne-Romanée) as well as half a hectare in Les Chaboeufs and a 0.3-hectare (0.7-acre) plot in Aux Boudots (both in Nuits-Saint-Georges). Other labels produced at the estate include a number of Côte de Nuits-Villages titles, a Chambolle-Musigny Premier Cru and a "village" Chambolle-Musigny as well as a village Nuits-Saint-Georges. The viticultural portfolio is approximately 95 percent Pinot Noir with small plantings of Chardonnay and Aligoté. The vineyards have been organically farmed since the early 1990s. The domaine owes its origins to the marriage of Jean Confuron and Anne Marie Bouchard in 1926, both bringing together the vineyard holdings of the two families. These vineyards have been passed through the family since, while domaine holdings have expanded too, picking up plots in the prestigious grand cru sites. In the winery, grapes are destalked prior to a short period of cold maceration. Fermentation is done in both stainless steel and oak before being placed immediately into barrels for ageing. The wines see varying levels of French oak, depending on their status, with the grand crus getting a higher proportion of new oak. Wines are bottled without any fining or filtering.
