Iowa's Cedar Ridge entered the whiskey world in the most logical possible way -- bourbon made from Iowa corn. Since then, they've expanded their portfolio, including this Wheat Whiskey, which is made from 100% winter wheat. Made in small batches and hand-numbered on the label, the whiskey has been aged in lightly charred, 15-gallon barrels.
Cedar Ridge Wheat Whiskey Tasting Notes
Nose: Find a honeyed, floral nose, with a distinctive wheat, cereal aroma, and herbaceous notes.
Palate: The palate is dry, with plenty of wheat upfront, along with hay, grass, and an undercurrent of caramel and toffee.
Finish: The moderate finish offers light cocoa and vanilla, with some orange peel and oak.
Distillery Information
Nestled in a picturesque stretch of the Heartlands, just outside the town of Swisher in Eastern Iowa, sits Cedar Ridge Vineyards, Winery, and Distillery. Family-owned by Jeff and Laurie Quint, Jeff serves as both Master Distiller and Master Winemaker at the small operation, which has an outsized reputation for quality. Cedar Ridge — the first micro-distillery in the state — began distilling vodka back in 2005 before moving onto fruit liqueurs and, eventually, bourbon, crafting Iowa’s first bourbon whiskey since Prohibition.
