Crystal clear and pale lemon yellow in color with expressive aromas of citrus, cut hay and touch of jasmine. On the palate the acid is focused, keeping the palate crisp and refreshing. Flavors such as early season pears, Gravenstein apples and Meyer lemon shine through alongside floral notes of apple blossom.

Producer Information

Clos Pegase is a Napa Valley wine estate, founded by Jan Shrem in the early 1980s. It is best known for its flagship varietal Cabernet Sauvignon wine, Hommage, which features the work of a different artist each vintage on its label. The estate comprises two vineyards across Napa: Mitsuko's Vineyard in Los Carneros and Tenma Vineyard in St. Helena. Mitsuko's Vineyard is the largest, covering a total of 365 acres (148 hectares) of land with a diverse array of soil types, altitudes and exposures. This is reflected in the range of grape varieties cultivated here, including Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The 16ha (40 acre) Tenma Vineyard lies atop well-drained, rocky soils and is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon vines. These low-yielding old vines produce particularly high-quality grapes and are therefore largely reserved for the estate's prestigious Block D9 Cabernet Sauvignon. The gravel-rich soils of Applebone Vineyard, too, provide ideal growing conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon. Here, only a single clone is cultivated and was chosen specifically for its small and concentrated grapes. The winery's unique post-modern architecture was designed by Michael Graves in 1984. The design was born out of an architectural design competition curated by Jan Shrem in collaboration with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and is strongly influenced by ancient Mediterranean architecture.
