Ruby red in color, L'Avvocata offers Barbera's typical intense aromas of ripened cherry and strawberry. Round, full-bodied, and balanced with a spicy finish of cola and ripe berries.

      Producer Information

Coppo is an Italian wine producer located in the city of Canelli in Piedmont. The estate's 18th Century underground wine cellars extend deep into the Canelli hillside, and are recognized as a Unesco World Heritage site. These 'underground cathedrals' are home to the estate's diverse portfolio of northern Italian varieties from Piedmont's top wine regions. The majority of wine produced at Coppo is more value-driven, and includes Barbera, Metodo Classico sparkling wines, Chardonnay and Moscato d'Asti. However, the winery also produces some classic DOCG wines, including Gavi and Barolo. Coppo's vineyards cover around 52 hectares (129 acres) of land, mostly in southern Piedmont in Monferrato where Moscato Bianco and Pinot Nero are cultivated to produce the estate's sparkling Metodo Classico Riserva Coppo. In the 1980s, Coppo began to champion Barbera, lowering yields and maturing the wine in barriques to create a complex, aromatic wine, rather than the insipid wines that the variety had previously been associated with. The wine, called Pomorosso, became a model label for the quality that Barbera can achieve in Piedmont. Coppo now produces three distinct varietal wines under the Barbera d'Asti title: L'Avvocata, Camp du Rouss, and Pomorosso. Coppo has been producing Gavi at the winery's La Rocca estate since the mid-1800s from the grape variety Cortese. Uniquely, it produces Barolo DOCG from a production zone not prescribed by the Ministry of Agriculture – a select few historic wineries have this privilege. In 2012, Coppo was added to the national register of historical businesses highlighting a century on uninterrupted production.
