Springbank 22 Year Old UD Single Malt Scotch Whisky

One of the rare whiskies that seems to get worse with time in the glass. Liked it much better immediately after pouring, each time I tried it, especially on the nose.

Nose: Thankfully sulphur-free. Sports the savory/spicy/jammy character you's expect from such a bottling, with big notes of smoked bacon, berry jam, charbroiled meats, and tomato-based barbecue sauces.

Palate: There's a youthful heat that's hard to tame, even with dilution, but apart from that, it's a full-on flavor attack. Simple, but delicious, with soft smoke and a big honeyed sweetness that you seldom find in SB. As for the flavors, see above: it's basically the nose on repeat, perhaps with an added juiciness.

Finish: Still some heat creeping back up the old esophagus, but also immaculate, unassailable flavors that reflect the distinctive distillate and the fresh sherry hoggies in equal measure. A big barbecue feel here as well. Pretty long, due to the smoke.

Distillery Information

The Springbank distillery is a family-owned single malt whisky distillery on the Kintyre Peninsula in western Scotland. It is owned by J & A Mitchell & Company, who also owns the Glengyle Distillery, the oldest independent bottler, William Cadenheads, and several blended scotch labels.
