Schug Winery was founded in 1980 by Walter Schug, a German-born winemaker whose career included creating the original Insignia wine at Joseph Phelps Vineyards. He established Schug in Carneros with a strong focus on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, bringing traditional European winemaking principles to California. The family-owned winery remains based on its Carneros estate, where cool coastal conditions and diverse vineyard sites provide an ideal setting for Pinot Noir.
