The estate lies in the northern Bommes commune of the wider Sauternes appellation. The 14-hectare (35-acre) estate is the smallest of the Sauternes first growths and is planted predominantly to Sémillon (85 percent). The remaining 15 percent of the vineyard is given over to Sauvignon Blanc, which is found in some of the wines. Neighbors include first growth stablemates Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey to the southeast and Rayne Vigneau to the southwest. The estate produces two sweet white wines made from botrytised (or \"noble rot\"-affected) grapes. The \"grand vin\" contains a minimum of 90 Sémillon (with the remainder Sauvignon Blanc) while the estate's second wine, Le Lieutenant de Sigalas generally shows a slightly higher portion of Sauvignon Blanc, although Sémillon still accounts for around 80 percent of the composition.
