It was founded by cinematographer Michael Seresin in the early 1990s, and was one of the first producers in New Zealand to begin making wines from organically grown grapes. It is now farmed biodynamically. The white grape varieties planted here are reasonably diverse. The Marlborough flagship Sauvignon Blanc is made in a \"standard\" version and barrel-fermented as the \"Marama\" cuvée. An ageworthy Reserve version has been made in several vintages. Riesling comes in dry, off-dry (Memento) and occasionally late harvest forms. Pinot Gris and Chardonnay (standard and reserve) wines are also produced. The Chiaroscuro release is currently the only multi-variety blend; this is a co-fermentation of Pinot Gris, Riesling and Chardonnay. The red wines are made exclusively from Pinot Noir. This lineup is underpinned by the Leah cuvée, which is sourced from fruit across the estate and also features a collection of wines from specific blocks and parcels.
