It was not until the middle of the 1960s that Macallan concentrated on single-malts matured in the sherry barrel and, with the exceptional barrel policy, gained great recognition among whisky connoisseurs worldwide. At that time they experimented with different sherry casks and decided to use European Oloroso casks, which previously stored the world-famous Spanish liqueur wine.
