In 1954, Hedwig Detert, affectionately known as Mutti, acquired 50 acres of the iconic To Kalon Vineyard, laying the foundation for Detert Vineyards. Sometime in the 1950s, Hedwig divided the property between her son, Gunter Detert, and her son-in-law, Allen Horten, which became Macdonald Vineyards.
