Matusalem Sublime Kiku is the second release in the Sublime Collection: A Journey Through Traditions, unveiled in Tokyo in 2026. This exceptionally rare rum follows an international maturation journey through American oak ex-bourbon barrels, Spanish ex-sherry casks and French oak casks previously used for Premier Grand Cru Bordeaux wine before its final maturation stage in Japanese casks that previously held Junmai sake. The unusual combination creates a refined meeting of Caribbean rum, European barrel traditions and Japanese influence. Limited to just 600 individually numbered crystal decanters worldwide, Sublime Kiku is presented as one of Matusalem's most exclusive collector releases.

Sublime Kiku | 2026 Limited Edition Tasting Notes

Nose: Rich vanilla, polished oak and dried fruit with sherried sweetness, subtle red-fruit character and delicate floral notes. Gentle rice-like aromas, soft coconut and elegant spice may emerge from the final Junmai sake cask influence.

Palate: Silky and complex, with mature rum sweetness, vanilla, dried fruit and gentle oak layered with hints of red berries, soft wine-like tannins and subtle tropical character. The sake-cask influence adds a delicate, refined dimension with suggestions of cereal, white flowers and restrained sweetness.

Finish: Long, smooth and sophisticated, with lingering oak, dried fruit, vanilla and gentle spice. Delicate floral and lightly savory notes remain alongside a refined sweetness and subtle Japanese sake influence.

Distillery Information

Ron Matusalem traces its origins to 1872, when the brand was founded in Santiago de Cuba and developed its distinctive Hispanic-style rum identity. Matusalem became known for applying the solera system, inspired by the fractional-aging traditions of Spanish sherry production, to rum maturation and blending. Following political changes in Cuba, the family rebuilt the brand internationally and later established production in the Dominican Republic. Today, Matusalem continues to focus on smooth, elegant aged rums while expanding into highly exclusive collector expressions. The Sublime Collection represents the pinnacle of this approach, exploring rare international cask influences and luxury presentation, with Kiku bringing a distinctive Japanese Junmai sake-cask finish to the brand's long-established rum heritage.
