Distillery Information

HiteJinro is a South Korean company which is responsible for over half of all domestic sales of soju. The latter is the traditional Korean distilled drink which utterly dominates sales of white spirits in the country. The company in its modern form dates to 1997 when beverage company Hite Corporation bought the Jinro distilling company. South Korea has the highest per capita consumption of spirits in the world. Consequently Jinro Soju is the world's biggest-selling spirits brand by volume, with figures well over double that of any other brand. Global sales of Jinro soju reached 75.9 million cases in 2017. By comparison Smirnoff, the second-placed white spirits brand (6th overall) sold 25.6 million cases globally in the same year. The company makes soju under both the Jinro label and the Chamisul range. Jinro bottlings have a level of 24 percent abv. Chamisul means "real dew" and is a quadruple-filtered style with around 19.5 percent abv. Flavored versions of chamisul are also made.
