      Detailed Description

The 2024 Jean-Marc Vincent Santenay 1er Cru Les Gravières Blanc is a breathtakingly precise and mineral-driven white Burgundy that captures the essence of extreme, high-density viticulture.

      Producer Information

Domaine Jean-Marc Vincent is an elite, highly revered family wine estate based in the village of Santenay within Burgundy's Côte de Beaune, widely celebrated by critics like William Kelley as the definitive benchmark for its appellation. Established in 1997 by husband-and-wife duo Jean-Marc and Anne-Marie Vincent, the project began when they rescued and gradually reclaimed 6 hectares of prized family vineyards that had been leased out under métayage contracts after Jean-Marc’s grandfather, André Bardollet-Bravard, retired in 1970. Driven by a radical, quality-obsessed viticultural philosophy, the Vincents practice meticulous, 99% organic farming without heavy machinery, utilizing exceptionally high-density plantings (reaching 14,000 to 17,000 vines per hectare) and high, unhedged canopies that they manually braid (tressage) to foster deeper root systems, shade the soil, and maintain electric freshness. In the cellar, their non-interventionist approach relies entirely on gravity handling, spontaneous fermentations with indigenous wild yeasts, and minimal sulfur additions. Their Chardonnays, such as the flagship Auxey-Duresses Blanc "Les Hautés" and Santenay Les Vignes Denses, are gently whole-bunch pressed and aged on fine lees in neutral oak barrels without racking, while their structured, perfumed Pinot Noirs undergo gentle vertical pressing with partial-to-full whole-cluster inclusion and long, unraked barrel aging—yielding deep, texturally rich, and intensely mineral wines that effortlessly rival the grander, far more expensive names of the northern Côte de Beaune.
