The 1995 Taylor Fladgate Vargellas Vinha Velha was the first Vintage Port produced under this rare designation, made by separately harvesting selected grapes from the estate’s oldest vineyard plots. This exceptional Port displays deep ruby-brick color and a complex aromatic profile of jammy dark fruit, violets, herbs, and warming spice. On the palate, concentrated plum and berry flavors mingle with chocolate, dried fruit, and firm yet elegant tannins. Structured and distinctive, it combines the richness of a great Vintage Port with the individual character of Vargellas’ ancient vines.

Taylor Fladgate is one of the historic Port houses of Portugal, founded in 1692 and renowned for its Vintage Ports and long-standing commitment to the Douro Valley. The company acquired Quinta de Vargellas in 1893, although the estate had already established a reputation for producing exceptional Port grapes decades earlier. Situated in the eastern Douro, Vargellas is celebrated for its steep terraced vineyards, distinctive terroir, and elegant, aromatic wines. Its oldest vineyard plots contain diverse traditional grape varieties, cultivated in conditions that contribute to the estate’s characteristic concentration, structure, and complexity. Taylor Fladgate continues to preserve these historic vineyards as an important part of the Douro’s winemaking heritage.
