      Detailed Description

The 2004 Villa Fidelia is an elegant, sexy wine. Medium in body, it reveals gorgeous inner sweetness in its layered personality, with plenty of sweet dark fruit and well-integrated oak.

      Producer Information

Sportoletti is a leading wine estate in Assisi in the region of Umbria, in central Italy. It makes red and white wines under the Assissi DOC and Umbria IGT appellations. The Sportoletti family have farmed the hills between Assisi and Spello for generations, with brothers Ernesto and Remo devoting themselves to wine production in the 1970s. The first wines were released under their own label in 1979. Today, the estate consists of around 25 hectares (62 acres) of vineyards on the hillsides of Spello and Assisi, all within the Assisi DOC zone. They are planted to Italian and international varieties; clones are carefully selected to ensure quality rather than high yields. The crop levels are further controlled by bunch thinning at the onset of ripening. The portfolio is led by three Umbria IGT wines under the Villa Fidelia label: a Bordeaux blend, a white wine combining Grechetto and Chardonnay, and a Grechetto passito. Sportoletti also make two Assisi DOC wines – a varietal Grechetto and a red wine made from a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The red wines are fermented in temperature-regulated stainless steel tanks and aged in French oak for varying periods of time. The Villa Fidelio rosso has 12 months in barriques followed by two years in bottle.
