      • Wine Advocate: Chocolate, espresso roast, plum, fig, and black currant aromas are followed by a dense, rich, full-bodied Pomerol displaying superb purity, elegance, and noticeable but ripe tannin.

      Producer Information

Clos l'Église is an historical Bordeaux estate located in Pomerol on the right bank of the Dordogne River. The vineyard is planted largely to Merlot with some Cabernet Franc. The proportions of the grand vin varies based on the vintage, but is usually around 80:20 of the above pair. A second wine, labeled Esprit de l’Église, is made with a similar ratio. Malolactic fermentation takes place in 100-percent new French oak; the grand vin goes on to spend 16-18 months in barrel. The modern Clos l'Église retained 6ha (15 acres) and was run by the Rouchet family. The slight larger plot became Château l'Église-Clinet, run by the Mauléon family. Despite the "Clos" name, the vineyards are not walled.
