      Producer Information

Azienda Agricola Montevetrano is a wine producer situated in the Monti Picentini Regional Park in the Campania region of southern Italy. The 26-hectare (64-acre) estate was established in the mid-1980s and today makes wines from a blend of the local variety Aglianico and international varieties Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The estate's main wine is its Montevetrano Colli di Salerno IGT wine – essentially a Campanian version of a Super Tuscan, made predominantly from Cabernet Sauvignon with minority portions of Aglianico and Merlot. It was dubbed the "Sassicaia of the South" by US wine critic Robert Parker in 1995. The wine comes from a five-hectare (12-acre) vineyard that sits on southwest-facing slopes in a sheltered valley near Salento, southeast of Naples. Montevetrano makes around 30,000 bottles a year of this wine, which was first released in the early 1990s, after several years of production. Montevetrano's second label, Core, comprises a red and a white wine made under the Campania IGT wines. The red wine is made from Aglianico, while the white wine is a blend of Greco Bianco and Fiano. Montevetrano was established as a winery by Italian photographer Silvia Imparato, on her family estate east of Salerno and 70km (43 miles) southeast of Naples. Imparato enlisted – and retains – the services of high-profile Italian enologist Riccardo Cotarella.
